The Art Collection’s acquisition of Indigenous artwork is underpinned by three defined themes. These themes include collecting works on paper (including edition prints and paintings on paper), urban‑based Indigenous artworks and the specialized collecting of artwork by particular Indigenous artists and/or communities.

Murdoch University’s latest exhibition titled Bush + Burbs reflects this acquisition strategy by showcasing a snapshot juxtaposition of the University’s collection of urban based and regional community based Indigenous artworks. In doing so, the exhibition also reveals and celebrates the rich diversity of Indigenous visual arts currently produced in Australia.

Artists featured in this exhibition include Julie Dowling, Ben Pushman, Butcher Cherel JANANGOO, Claude Carter, Queenie McKenzie, Hector Jandany, Beerbee Mungnari, Mabel Juli, Shirley Purdie, Eubena Nampitjin, Nora Nangapa, and Paddy Carroll Tjungurrayi
